Theron, Hammer Consider Supporting Roles in ‘J. Edgar’

NY Magazine reports that Charlize Theron has also been tied to the Eastwood production. She’s been offered the part of Helen Gandy, the woman who at 21 was selected as Hoover’s personal secretary and remained at his side for 54 years. Lucky Leo, 54 (movie) years next to Charlize doesn’t really sound like that much of a chore.

We already learned that Leonardo DiCaprio would team up with fellow super A-lister Clint Eastwood to bring the tale of J. Edgar Hoover, the first ever director of the FBI, to the big screen, but now the project is really beginning to take shape. Armie Hammer of The Social Network fame, is in talks to take a role alongside DiCaprio in the upcoming project. This guy is really on a roll, huh? The biggest project of note before he took on the Winklevoss twins in The Social Network was a stint as a conman on Gossip Girl last year, so I think it’s safe to say he’s enjoyed a pretty quick jump to the top.

Hammer will play Clyde Tolson, a lawyer who becomes an FBI official and who many people accused of being Hoover’s secret lover. Hoover’s dynamic friendship with Tolson remained a close one throughout their lives and should provide an interesting set of characters for DiCaprio and Hammer to work out. Besides, after seeing what he’s capable of in the Facebook movie, I’m sure he’ll be able to hold his own alongside someone with as great a presence as DiCaprio.

In addition to big names like Eastwood and DiCaprio, Oscar winner Dustin Lance Black lends his wordsmithing ability to the script. Production on the Eastwood-helmed film starts next year, and it doesn’t seem to be able to come soon enough. This project is really shaping to be an exciting look at the life of one of the most intriguing men in American history.

‘Young Adult’ On set

I’ve added another on set images of Charlize from ‘Young Adult’. Please keep in mind that these are not new images. In fact, these photos were taken on October 15. I just didnt upload them until now. Enjoy!

Charlize Theron Kisses a Girl for Charity

Imagine being able to plant one on Charlize Theron?! One lucky lady got to make out with the gorgeous actress, all in the name of charity. Charlize was taking part in an auction last night for the charity OneXOne in San Francisco.

She was auctioning off a trip to South Africa with World Cup tickets, a safari, and a meet-and-greet with Nelson Mandela when the bidding started to stall at $37,000, reports Us Weekly.

Charlize decided to up the ante because Jeremy Piven had just gotten a separate bid for $280,000!

Charlize told the crowd, "For f*** sake! You can do better. There is no way I am leaving here with Jeremy Piven getting a higher bid. I've got t**** for God's sake."

So Charlize decided to add a make out session with her to the package. After one man bid $135,000, a woman upped it to $140,000, and took to the stage for a 20-second kiss as the audience counted down.

"My boyfriend is not here tonight," Charlize joked. We love it! That’s a woman who is dedicated to her cause!

Charlize Theron Ready for Children

The stunning Charlize Theron is finally ready to become a mother and bless this world with babies that look just like her.

Charlize, who has been with her boyfriend Stuart Townsend for nine year, says she's finally ready to settle down and start raising a family.

She told the Daily Mirror newspaper: “I feel very blessed to have had a certain amount of success and now I’m reaching the point where I would love to be a mom. I know I want to raise a big family and it’s just a question of time.

“I know I’m ready for that phase of my life and I know that Stuart is the man I want to take that step with.”

And she knows they're going to be great parents, because they already have a "great friendship."

She added, “Stuart is a remarkable, warm, caring man. We’ve been able to make a great life for ourselves and that can be pretty hard in this business when you’re traveling and sometimes separated.

“What holds us together is great love, great respect and great friendship – we’re lucky in that we’ve discovered a way of enjoying our time together and being happy. Even after nine years, we’re still completely crazy about ach other.”

Charlize Theron and Boyfriend Split?

Charlize Theron has been with her boyfriend, Stuart Townsend, for nine years and there have never been any rumors of the two splitting until now.

Charlize reportedly told friends that they split after a trip to Mexico during the Christmas holiday.

A friend of the couple said: “Stuart is gutted but Charlize said that she realised during the Mexican holiday the relationship was over. They had become more like brother and sister than lovers. It was she who ended it.”

A source told the Mail on Sunday newspaper: “She loved Stuart but their relationship ran its course. He is heartbroken but she is insisting it is over. Charlize was surprised the story hadn’t come out yet. But she didn’t confirm it because she wanted to break the news in her own time.”

The two never married because they felt like they were committed enough to each other and they didn't need a piece of paper to tell them how much they love each other.

A spokesman for Charlize said: “I never comment on her personal life.”

Charlize Theron and Keanu Reeves Caught K-I-S-S-I-N-G

We would never in a million years link these two together, but it’s Hollywood, and crazier things have happened. The newest couple on the block is none other than Charlize Theron and Keanu Reeves!

Cameras caught the two kissing and hugging each other after a long romantic dinner at Bouchon in Beverly Hills. As they waited for their respective cars from the valet, they definitely didn’t hide their affection towards one another!

Charlize Theron Ready for Kids

TMZ photogs confirmed Charlize’s hands were underneath Keanu’s jacket as they embraced. They must have been ready to go public with their relationship, since they both know celebs can’t hide from the paparazzi! It’s like they were showing off!

And while she was initially selling a 2010 trip to South Africa that included World Cup tickets, a safari and a meet-and-greet with Nelson Mandela, she raised the stakes when bidding stalled at $37,000, far below the $280,000 Jeremy Piven had just raised.

"For f*** sake! You can do better," she tells attendees. "There is no way I am leaving here with Jeremy Piven getting a higher bid. I've got t**** for God's sake."

To sweeten the pot, she offered up a 7-second kiss for $130,000 to a male bidder. "Swine flu is going around. This is high risk kissing!" she told him.

Theron, Basinger movie premiering on DirecTV

LOS ANGELES (Hollywood Reporter) - In a move that adds a wrinkle to the traditional film-distribution model, DirecTV will debut "The Burning Plain," starring Oscar winners Charlize Theron and Kim Basinger, as a video-on-demand (VOD) offering nearly a month before the film's theatrical release.

The satellite network said Wednesday it will launch the Guillermo Arriaga-directed drama August 21 as a DirecTV Cinema offering in HD and standard definition.

The film, unveiled almost a year ago at the Venice International Film Festival, won't hit theaters until September 18 through Magnolia Pictures, 2929's distribution arm. It then will play simultaneously on DirecTV at reduced prices.

The film depicts two parallel stories running side by side: Theron plays a bed-hopping woman on the run from something in her past; Basinger plays an ill-fated married mother of four.

In reviewing the film at Venice, The Hollywood Reporter described it as "an ambitious, visually handsome production which fails to ignite."

A balding, Caucasian 64-year-old drag queen from South Africa, satirist and performance artist Pieter-Dirk Uys has been dubbed a national treasure in his homeland, hobnobbing with the likes of Nelson Mandela and Desmond Tutu and then imitating both men onstage with untethered mockery.

Early life
Theron was born in Benoni, South Africa, the only child of Charles and Gerda Theron,[2] and is of German and French descent.[citation needed] Theron's first language is Afrikaans,[3][4][5] she is fluent in English and speaks some Zulu. "Theron" is an Occitan surname (originally spelled Théron) pronounced in Afrikaans as "Tronn", although she has said that she prefers the pronunciation "Thrown".[6]

Theron grew up on her parents' farm near Johannesburg (Benoni). She attended Putfontein Primary School (Laerskool Putfontein). At the age of 13, Theron was sent to boarding school and began her studies at the National School Of The Arts in Johannesburg. At 15, Theron witnessed the death of her father, an abusive alcoholic; her mother shot him in self-defence when he attacked her. The police pressed no charges against her.[7]

Career
At the age of 16, Theron traveled to Milan, Italy, on a one-year modeling contract, after winning a local competition. She went to New York with Pauline's Model Management. She decided to remain after her contract ended, attending the Joffrey Ballet School, where she trained as a ballet dancer. A knee injury closed this career path when Theron was 19.[8][9]

Unable to dance, Theron flew to Los Angeles on a one-way ticket her mother bought her.[8] During her early months there, she went to a bank to cash a check her mother had sent her to help with the rent. When the teller refused to cash it, Theron immediately started a shouting match with her. Afterwards, a talent agent in line behind her handed her his business card and subsequently introduced her to some casting agents and also an acting school.[10][11] She later fired him as her manager after he kept sending her scripts for films similar to Showgirls and Species.[12] After eight months in the city, she was cast in her first film part, a non-speaking role in the direct-to-video film Children of the Corn III (1995). Larger roles in widely released Hollywood films followed, and her career skyrocketed in the late 1990s with box office successes like The Devil's Advocate (1997), Mighty Joe Young (1998), and The Cider House Rules (1999). She glossed the cover of the January 1999 issue of Vanity Fair as the "White Hot Venus".[13]

Theron at the premiere of North Country at the 2005 Toronto Film FestivalAfter appearing in a few notable films, Theron starred as the serial killer Aileen Wuornos in Monster (2003). Film critic Roger Ebert called it "one of the greatest performances in the history of the cinema".[14] For this role, Theron won the Academy Award for Best Actress at the 76th Academy Awards in February 2004,[15] as well as the SAG Award and the Golden Globe Award.[16] She is the first African to win an Oscar for Best Actress.[17] The Oscar win pushed her to The Hollywood Reporter's 2006 list of highest-paid actresses in Hollywood; earning $10,000,000 for both her subsequent films, North Country and Æon Flux, she ranked seventh, behind Halle Berry, Cameron Diaz, Drew Barrymore, Renée Zellweger, Reese Witherspoon, and Nicole Kidman.

On September 30, 2005, Theron received her own star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.[17] In the same year, she starred in the financially unsuccessful science fiction thriller Æon Flux.[18] Additionally, Theron received Best Actress Academy Award and Golden Globe nominations for her lead performance in the drama North Country.[15][16] Ms. magazine also honored her for this performance with a feature article in its Fall 2005 issue.

In 2005, Theron portrayed Rita, Michael Bluth's (Jason Bateman) love interest, on the third season of Fox's critically-acclaimed television series Arrested Development.[19] She also received Golden Globe and Emmy nominations for her role of Britt Ekland in the 2004 HBO movie The Life and Death of Peter Sellers.[20]

In 2007, Esquire named her the Sexiest Woman Alive.[21]

In 2008, Theron was named the Hasty Pudding Theatricals Woman of the Year.[22] That year she also starred with Will Smith in Hancock, a movie that grossed $227.9M in the U.S.A. and $396.4M internationally,[23] and in late 2008 she was asked to be a UN Messenger of Peace by the UN Secretary General Ban Ki-Moon.[24]

On November 10, 2008, TV Guide reported that Theron will star in the film adaptation of The Danish Girl alongside Nicole Kidman. Theron will play Gerda Wegener, wife of Einar Wegener/Lili Elbe (Kidman), the world's first known person to undergo sex reassignment surgery.[25] In October 2009, Theron was cast to star in a sequel to the Mad Max films, titled Mad Max: Road Fury, which will start filming in Aust 2010.[26]

[edit] Personal life
Theron resides in Los Angeles with her boyfriend Stuart Townsend, with whom she starred in the 2004 film Head in the Clouds, as well as in the 2002 film Trapped and 2005 Æon Flux. She has said that she will not marry until same-sex couples are able to have their marriages recognized.[27] Townsend recently stated he considers himself and Theron to be husband and wife. "We didn't have a ceremony," he said. "I don't need a certificate or the state or the church to say otherwise. So no there's no big official story on a wedding, but we are married... I consider her my wife and she considers me her husband".[28]

Theron became a naturalized citizen of the United States in May 2007.[29]

Theron signed with William Morris Endeavour and is represented by CEO Ari Emanuel.[30]

Health concerns
While filming Æon Flux in Berlin, Germany, Theron suffered a herniated disc in her neck, which occurred as a result of her suffering a fall while filming a series of back handsprings. This required her to wear a neck collar for a month.[31]

In July 2009, Theron was diagnosed with a serious virus, thought to be contracted while traveling overseas.[32] She was hospitalized at Cedars-Sinai Hospital.

[edit] Promotional deals
Having signed a deal with John Galliano in 2004, Theron replaced Estonian model Tiiu Kuik as the spokeswoman in the J'ADORE advertisements by Christian Dior.[33] Invariably, she would bearably bare the uppermost part of her bosom for Dior's ads.[34] Then, on December 18, 2007, she finally stripped for Dior's J'Adore perfume.[35] Galliano has reputedly cited her as a muse and has been creating couture dresses for her to wear to formal red carpet events such as the Academy Awards and the Golden Globe Awards.

From October 2005 to December 2006, Theron earned $3,000,000 for the use of her image in a worldwide print media advertising campaign for Raymond Weil watches.[36] In February 2006, she and her loan-out corporation were sued by Weil for breach of contract.[36][37] The lawsuit was settled on November 4, 2008.[38]

[edit] Activism
Theron is involved in women's rights organizations, and marched for abortion rights.[39]

Theron is a supporter of animal rights and active member of PETA. She appeared in a PETA ad for their anti-fur campaign.[40] She is also an active supporter of Democracy Now! and Link TV.[41] She is a supporter of same sex marriage and attended the march in Fresno, California on 30 May 2009.

In July 2009, it was announced that Charlize Theron's Africa Outreach Project (CTAOP) would form a coalition with LAFC Soccer Club to give soccer fields to rural areas in South Africa. LAFC Chelsea, one of America's most successful and prominent youth soccer clubs, made a three-year commitment to help build a community-wide soccer program for the schools in the Umkhanyakude District. This help includes uniforms, cleats, balls and equipment, along with professional training for local coaches, referees and administrators. The soccer league training will also include life-saving health education administered through a CTAOP-funded mobile health program.[42] With the 2010 FIFA World Cup on African soil for the very first time, CTAOP wants to put a spotlight on the urgent need to provide sustainable health, education and recreational resources to remote areas where HIV/AIDS rates are unacceptably high.

Don Sheppards, president of LAFC Chelsea said:

“ ...when I learned about Charlize's incredible plan to give sustainable opportunities to young South Africans who are at enormous risk, I knew that LAFC Chelsea was in position to help.
Our goal is to help truly create a safer, healthier and better life for the young people in South Africa, especially those living in remote areas, and to ensure that the resources we bring are self sustaining. The three year commitment is so incredible and key to being sure that the program will be around for many years to come", says Charlize Theron. "I'm overwhelmed with gratitude to Don and LAFC Chelsea for their commitment to help us give these beautiful, young people a recreational outlet that is sorely lacking from their lives.[42]
